Aguahe is a native palm tree from the South American Amazon rainforest commercialized in food, cosmetics and medicine. Amazonian ecosystems are dominated by this one. It’s known as aguahe and buriti. The fruit of M. flexuosa has several purposes, being used since the pulp until the seeds. However, at the moment, its pulp is more used and it presents multiple nutritional properties that can be favorable to the health. It’s a functional food that contains phytoestrogen, which is a phytochemical that has estrogen-like action. Scientific studies affirm that the consumption of aguahe is closely related to a greater regenerative effect of ovarian tissue in women. This study confirms that the phytoestrogens of the aguahe can adequately satisfy as functional foods against some female health problem due to estrogen deficiency.
