Safe Food for Canadians Regulations is a GO!!

For the past 3 years TFO Canada has been keeping you up-to-date on the progress on the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations; recently the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) released on update on its finalization. CFIA informed stakeholders and the public that the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations have been finalized and are now published in Canada Gazette, Part II.

The regulations will come into force on January 15, 2019, which will allow time for industry to transition to the new requirements.  Some requirements will have to be met immediately upon coming into force and others will be phased in over a period of 12 to 30 months, based on food commodity, type of activity and business size.  The agency has provided producers and importers with timelines to help businesses transition and plan towards meeting the new requirements.
To get more details on this exciting development you can review the updated information and guidance for industry on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency website (http://inspection.gc.ca/safefood), which includes:
