Elisur Organic| More Hands Together: A Peruvian Ginger Exporter’s Journey To Canada — And Beyond

In the heart of Peru’s Central Jungle, ELISUR ORGANIC began in 2016 with four partners — two veteran farmers, Wildo Ramírez and Fredy Mauricio, food engineer Kristel Camargo, and economist Caleb Alcalá — united by one commitment: create better socioeconomic conditions for farmers and for the Junín region. The team started with local production and, through matchmaking and early fair participation, shipped a first container to Europe — overcoming strict standards, financing hurdles, and the challenge of building durable partnerships with growers.

From the start, ELISUR ORGANIC’s growth rested on a philosophy it calls “more hands together” — collaboration, respect, trust, and loyalty — expressed through advanced traceability from field to processing plant and transparent operations at every step. With a network of 200+ farmers, the company secures product availability throughout the season and, with its own processing facility, can ship up to five containers per week. Crucially, agronomists and technicians provide technical guidance from pre‑sowing through harvest, improving yields and farm incomes.

To meet the most demanding buyers, ELISUR ORGANIC built a certification portfolio that includes EU Organic, USDA Organic, Canada Organic, GLOBALG.A.P., GRASP, SMETA, FAIRTRADE, HACCP, and BRC. These standards sit alongside two signature initiatives that speak to the firm’s purpose: GINGER WEEK – International Week of Peruvian Ginger, which convenes the value chain to address sector challenges, and INA QUIPATSI, a farmers’ school offering practical, on‑farm training to strengthen agronomy, postharvest, and traceability.

Exporting to Canada — From First Conversations to Confirmed Sales

ELISUR ORGANIC began exporting in 2016, with Italy as its first destination — a partnership that remains strong thanks to trust built from the very first shipment. Through PromPerú, the company connected with TFO Canada, joined specialized export-readiness training, and participated in the Women in Trade for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth (WIT) project. With TFO Canada’s support, ELISUR ORGANIC was selected to exhibit at the 2023 CPMA trade fair — its entry point into the Canadian market — where buyers recognized the company’s transparency, strong certifications, and reliable supply capacity. Canada quickly became the company’s third-largest market by FOB value (Free on Board — the value of the goods at the point of shipment), with confirmed sales of US $221,450 in ginger and US $22,241 in turmeric — totalling US $243,691.

“Thanks to the support of TFO Canada, we had the opportunity to participate in our very first international trade fair in Canada—a market that was still new and unexplored for us. Through their training and continued guidance, we were proudly selected to be part of CPMA, marking an important step in our journey of growth and international expansion.” — José Flores Palomino, General Manager, ELISUR ORGANIC.

What Sets ELISUR ORGANIC Apart

ELISUR ORGANIC’s model is long‑term by design. Relationships with farmers and buyers are built on mutual support and transparency, underpinned by robust traceability to meet strict specifications. The company’s ten years of experience, competitive pricing, and a skilled professional team form the base of its international growth and closed deals.

The same approach extends to workers: fair treatment and dignity in the workplace, supported by ongoing training. ELISUR ORGANIC’s long‑standing commitments — including farmer training delivered through INA QUIPATSI and compliance with multiple international standards — remain firmly embedded in its day‑to‑day operations.

Navigating Volatility with Consistency

Like many exporters, ELISUR ORGANIC confronted a period of sharp market turbulence. Ocean freight costs rose to as high as US $12,000, and demand swings created both overproduction and scarcity — with price volatility across the industry. These pressures strengthened the team’s resolve to prioritize stability, sustainability, and long‑term growth over short‑term reactions.

That discipline appears in the details: lot‑level traceability from field to plant, technical assistance that improves yields and postharvest handling, and plant capacity that can reliably dispatch five containers per week to meet buyer timelines and specifications.

By strengthening documentation, traceability, and certification readiness, ELISUR ORGANIC positioned itself to access transaction-based financing mechanisms and meet buyer timelines even in volatile markets.

A Collective Definition of Success

For ELISUR ORGANIC, success is shared. The company’s rise to Peru’s Top 5 ginger exporters, its entry and growth in Canada with confirmed sales, and its role in strengthening the ginger ecosystem at home all reflect a consistent belief: when more hands work together — farmers, workers, buyers, and support institutions — communities rise, quality improves, and international markets stay open.

“More hands together” isn’t a slogan; it’s how ELISUR ORGANIC operates — a practical commitment to collaboration that turns traceability and certifications into livelihoods and long‑term partnerships.
