Are you ready for the Safe Foods for Canadians Regulations?
On October 19, 2017 the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recalled 30 food products. The products were vegetable related products mostly ready to eat vegetable meals and packaged vegetables, this recall was triggered by CFIA testing that revealed listeria monocytogenes contamination. The brands affected are Mann’s, Compliments and Western Family. As a business this is a scene or headline you would want to avoid from a public relations and brand loyalty perspective, especially as the CFIA works to get the Safe Foods for Canadians Regulations into force for Spring 2018.CFIA is still reviewing the 1700 submissions it received from its online and cross-country consultations on the regulations. While this is in process the Agency has created interactive tools and information to help importers prepare for these future regulations. Your food business can:
- Gain knowledge by accessing CFIA information resources which includes fact sheets and videos
- Use CFIA interactive tools to make plans for your business compliance to these regulations; tools such as the to understand requirement on licencing, Preventative Control Plan and traceability.
- Sign up for a MY CFIA account which provides access online services and to complete a number of business transactions
- Ask compliance questions directly to CFIA on the current regulations through ASK CFIA portal
