Unique Products to Watch to Supply in 2017
TFO Canada has been working with some innovative and forward thinking exporters within our client base. We have conducted some great market access events with exporters from developing countries and have some projects that are being implemented. This newsletter outlines the events we have been working on and some products to watch for in 2017:[vc_column_text]
- Artisan Hub is an innovative showcase of traditional textiles and artisanal goods from Bangladesh, Uganda, Cambodia, Nepal, Madagascar, Lesotho, Haiti and Ethiopia. Based on buyers interest from the Hub’s first roadshow in Montréal the following speciality textilesare to be watched for in 2017:
- Barkcloth and accessories made out of Barkcloth from Uganda
- Hand painted silk scarves from Haiti
- Dominican Republic Producers Exporter Mission to Toronto took place at the end of September 2016. Seven export-ready companies of the fresh fruits and vegetables (FFV) sector participated in a market familiarization tour and business to business meetings with Toronto-based buyers. The products from the Dominican Republic, that stood out for Canadian buyers, that should be watched for in 2017 are:
- Dragonfruit
- Oriental vegetables e.g. Chinese broccoli
- In the Spring of 2016, TFO Canada took seven companies each from Sri Lanka and Tunisia on a Trade Mission to the SIAL Montreal 2016. The processed food products, from SIAL 2016, to be watched for in 2017 are:
- Dates syrup and sugar from Tunisia
- Tuna in coconut oil from Sri Lanka
- TFO Canada, under its current project with Global Affairs Canada, has a partnership project with BrandTRADE and the government of Peru. BrandTRADE taps into the Peruvian cultural traditions and launched four ambassador brands from Peruvian artisan communities in the North American market. The cultural productsfrom this project to watch for in 2017 are:
- Toques, scarves, mitts and socks, made with Alpaca wool by women from the Puno and Nunoa communities, by Qoni
- Throws, blankets, cushion covers and handbags, made by the finest women weavers using wool from llamas, alpaca and vicuna to weave the finest cloth in the world, by Coya Inca
- Woven hampers, baskets, lampshades and pedestals, created by women in the Catacoas and Piura regions using a UNESCO and Smithsonian honoured natural fibre weaving techniques, by Toquilla
- Patterned handbags, Shipibo created wall hangings and cushion covers, created Shipibo women artisans translate sung prayers into visual patterns on cloth, by Shipibo Collective
- SIAL Toronto Trade Mission in 2015 saw TFO Canada supporting 70 Exporters from 8 Countries. The processed food products, from SIAL 2015, to be watched in 2017 are:
- Organic Coconut Sugar (liquid and crystals) from Indonesia
- Green coffee from Indonesia
- Puffed Quinoa from Bolivia
- Banana ketchup from St. Lucia
- Fig oil from Tunisia
