European regions are transitioning between seasons, with prices easing but still above the five-year average.
In the Netherlands and Belgium, volumes are recovering after the extreme summer and prices are easing, at €1.56/kg for vine tomatoes and €1.52/kg for loose, still well above the five-year average. Italy faces limited Sicilian supply until November, with Datterino varieties reaching €5.80/kg — levels wholesalers describe as unsustainable for consumers. Spain expects significant export volumes from October 15-20, with greenhouse area at 13,500 hectares, slightly down on last season.
Outside Europe, Morocco’s Souss Massa region faces another difficult campaign due to water shortages and thermal shocks, delaying the winter cycle by 10 to 15 days. In North America, scattered supply and high fuel costs are keeping prices above previous years. ToBRFV pressure and competition from third countries continue to squeeze margins across the sector.
