TFO Canada Multiple Sector Approach to Capitalizing on Canada’s FTAs:
Providing supply opportunities for Canadian importers

 

In the wake of the uncertainty with the renegotiation and modernization of the multilateral trade agreement NAFTA, it may be worthwhile to focus on the other multilateral and bilateral trade agreements Canada has in force, is negotiating or is exploring. Presently Canada has  10 Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) that are in force, of which TFO Canada work encompasses six of these agreements.

We work with our developing countries clients to maximize the market access clauses in these agreements and these have numerous opportunities in this newsletter for you Canadian Importers.Working with Trade Support Institutions in their respective countries, export ready suppliers were identified to participate in trade missions, capacity building exercises and business to business meetings with Canadian importers. Sector: Organic foodTFO Canada partnered with a Canadian consultant to provide market access, trade information and opportunities in the Canadian market for organic foods coming in from Colombia.

Sectors: Information Communications Technology (ICT)The aim of the project is to support economic development through improved business competitiveness and increased trade in services. Costa Rican companies came on trade missions and had B2B meetings in Guelph and Toronto.

Project: Strengthening Capacities of SMEs and Cooperatives for the Export of Certified Coffees from Honduras to Canada market access under the Canada-Honduras FTA
Sector: CoffeeThis month we coordinated an exporter mission of Honduran coffee producers, mostly cooperatives, to the Coffee and Tea Show in Toronto. All the coffee from these producers carries different certification e.g. Fairtrade, UTZ, Rainforest Alliance. They only export specialty coffee, green and roasted coffee beans.

Project: Artisan Hub – market access under the Canada Market Access Initiative
Sectors: Speciality textiles, home décor and garmentsFrom August 21- 23. 2017 TFO Canada hosted 30 companies in the Artisan Hub Pavilion at the Apparel Textile Sourcing Canada in Toronto. The companies showcased a wide range of unique, hand-crafted home décor products, apparel, and fashion accessories. These small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are from eight countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Uganda and Haiti.Source new suppliers here.
