The government of Burkina Faso has just set up a National Committee for Trade Facilitation (CNFE), to boost the sector’s dynamism, the Trade Ministry told APA Thursday. This follows the adoption by the World Trade Organization (WTO) of an agreement on trade facilitation, which recommends that states set up a monitoring body for this instrument.
The objectives of the CNFE are to oversee and coordinate the implementation of WTO trade facilitation measures and other related initiatives, and the monitoring and periodic evaluation of the implementation of the WTO agreement.
Made up of some 40 members from the public setor, the private sector and the civil society, the CNFE will also provide advocacy and coordination of assistance with the technical and financial partners, as well as work to strengthen collaboration between public and private actors.
In the long term, trade facilitation will boost revenues for the state, as well as for the private sector and consumers, through more efficient and transparent services, and faster operations at lower costs, according to officials.
