Peru identifies trade opportunities in Canada

Monday, April 10, 2017 > 10:17:12

Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) on Monday announced it has identified trade opportunities for various national products in the Canadian market.

Products identified include the following: blueberries, fresh and frozen raspberries, pomegranates, sweet granadillas, cacao beans and powder, frozen shrimps, flowers, flower buds, among others.

Similarly, Peruvian alpaca garments for men and women, cotton clothes for babies and children, cosmetic inputs and ingredients, essential oils and food franchises have drawn the attention of Canadian consumers.

Exports Plan

The information was collected through Market Development Plan—Canada, a study developed by the Ministry to contribute to the internationalization of Peruvian enterprises and market diversification.

The document features the Inca nation's non-traditional products with opportunities in the North American market, as well as profiles of specialized products to boost Peru's exportable offer.

In addition, the study's Action Plan includes priority measures to be developed in concert with the private sector and Peru's Trade Office in Toronto (OCEX Toronto) in order to make the most of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) uniting both nations.

The study, a part of the National Strategic Exports Plan—PENX 2025's internationalization axis, is available at the Ministry's website and through the following link: goo.gl/66woQf.

Canada is the 11th largest economy in the world, World Bank Group statistics revealed.

It is worth noting Peruvian exports to Canada reached US$1.684 billion in 2016. Of this sum, non-traditional exports totaled US$195 million.
