TFO Canada is recruiting a Project Officer (Term Position, July to December 2018)
TFO Canada is currently recruiting for a Project Officer based in Ottawa. The successful candidate will be involved in supporting TFO Canada’s activities related to the 2014-2018 Canadian Market Access and Capacity Building project funded by Global Affairs Canada.

Reporting Relationship: Reporting to the Program Director, the Project Officer collaborates and supports the Project Managers.
Job Responsibilities:
The Project Officer’s role consists in supporting the overall TFO Canada multi-year programs and more specifically individual Project Managers under the direct supervision of the Program Director. This includes facilitating day to day program and event logistics, reporting and information administration. Specific responsibilities will include:
Program support & logistics:

  • Support Project Managers with the organization and logistics of trade missions, partners’ visits and trade-related technical assistance and capacity building projects/activities;
  • Prepare travel advance requests and settlements, take quotations and finalize service agreements as required;
  • Help with the compilation of project reports including data collection and preliminary analysis;
  • Support Project Managers with inquiries received from developing country exporters and trade support institutions;
  • Coach volunteers and interns;

Reporting & information administration:

  • Help record and synthetize results and lessons learned from TFO Canada events such as trade missions and trade fairs;
  • Ensure proper paper and electronic recording and filling of program related documents and information;
  • Help maintain databases for consultants, volunteers/interns;
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • BA International Development, International Trade or a related field; MA considered an asset
  • At least two years of work experience in an international organization, non-profit or related field;
  • Previous international trade or knowledge of the Canadian import market considered an asset
  • Overseas experience considered an asset
  • Bilingual (French/English); ability to communicate in Spanish considered an asset
  • Good computer applications skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel as well as Outlook; experience using Microsoft Publisher and database programs an asset
  • Understanding of Results Based Management considered an asset
  • Well organized, self-starter and independent worker
  • Able to work well in a team and in a fast-paced environment
  • No travel is anticipated for this position, but flexibility to travel internationally would be an asset should the need arise

Term: This is a term position from approximately July 9 to December 31, 2018.
Compensation: TFO Canada offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience and NGO sector norms.

Volunteer Opportunities

TFO Canada offers unpaid volunteer roles three times a year (April-June, June-August, September-November) for Ottawa-based volunteers interested in supporting our Canadian market access services and some of our trade capacity building projects, while at the same time gaining experience in research, writing, and results-gathering skills in the fields of international development and trade.  Click here for a complete description of this volunteer role and application instructions.


Consulting Opportunities

TFO Canada is seeking a firm/individual to serve as a “consultant” to create a guide for women exporters in the Pacific Alliance countries (Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru) for success in the Canadian market.
Interested parties are invited to submit a proposal to serve in this consultant role. Consultants may submit proposals for all or part of the assignment. Proposals should be submitted no later than June 22, 2018 and should include the following elements:

  1. A presentation of the firm/individual making the proposal highlighting their relevant experience and current activities which demonstrate their capacity to fulfill the requirements and responsibilities of the TOR.  The presentation should include a current CV of the individual making the proposal; if the proposal is made by a firm, the CV of the principal advisor should be provided.
  2. A 1-2-page outline of a preliminary strategy that the proponent would use to develop the guide including in which language the guide will be drafted.
  3. A proposed table of contents in keeping with the ideas presented in the terms of reference.
  4. A sample of a similar guide prepared previously by the proponent.
  5. A compensation proposal which does not exceed, in total, the budgetary parameters provided in the terms of reference.
  6. Any other information which the proponent feels relevant.

Calling experts on the Canadian import market!

Join our experts in trade roster for exciting new opportunities providing access to companies from developing countries to the Canadian market
TFO Canada is currently seeking to expand its roster of highly qualified and experienced consultants we call TFO Associates.  We are inviting experts on the Canadian market and export products to submit a CV by email to tfocrc@tfocanada.ca.  Along with completing this application form highlighting your experience.

To join the TFO Canada Associates' roster, consultants should have at least 7 years of experience in a relevant field and, ideally, some previous experience applying technical skills in the context of a developing country, in one or more of the following areas:

  • Marketing/branding and market entry for SMEs in Canada
  • Market Research (including writing skills) 
  • Product development process (including product adaptation for export competitiveness)
  • Presentation skills (addressing sector specific Canadian market overview and market entry requirements; typically for seminars/workshops aimed at developing countries exporter audience)
  • SME Exporters Need Assessment/Market Validation for the Canadian Market Entry
  • Organizing targeted B2B meetings with Canadian importers in specific product lines (part of TFO Canada’s Trade Mission Activities: importer identification and recruitment)
  • Packaging and labeling
  • Compliance with import regulations (e.g. food safety, standards/certifications, tariffs, GAP, HACCP, Organic Certifications, Fair Trade, Kosher, Halal)
  • Gender Equality
  • Project Monitoring and Evaluation
